Welcome to the live action of the third and final do-or-die encounter between South Africa and India at Boland Park in Paarl. Both teams have won one game each and would look to seal the series in the third game.Markram & co broke the 10-match unbeaten streak of KL Rahul courtesy of a brilliant century from Tony de Zorzi who scored 119* including 15 boundaries while for India, Sai Sudharsan was brilliant with the bat in his debut series scoring back-to-back half-centuries. It will be an interesting clash going ahead.

Aiden Markram, South Africa Skipper: "We opt to bowl first. Looks like a good wicket, doesn't seem to change too much. We want to keep challenging ourselves. We will try to take wickets regularly and restrict them to a low total. Expect to do more of the same we did in the previous game. The dimensions here are different, so running hard between wickets will be key. We are going with the same xi."

KL Rahul, Indian Skipper: "Not really bothered by being put to bat first. The wicket will be even for both innings. We got ourselves to a good position in the previous game but ended up losing 5 wickets for 40 odd runs. Once we get a good start, we have to make use of it. Today is another opportunity for the boys to prove themselves. This looks like a much better wicket than the previous two. Hopefully we can get plenty of runs today. We have two changes as Rajat Patidar makes his ODI debut and replaces Ruturaj. Kuldeep gets a rest and Washington Sundar comes in."

In today's decisive match of the ODI series, South Africa, winning the toss, chose to bowl first. Their pacers performed admirably, removing both Indian openers in the initial powerplay. However, a solid and crucial partnership of 116 runs in 136 balls between Sanju Samson and Tilak Varma (52 off 77) stabilized the innings. Sanju Samson scored an impressive 108 off 114 deliveries, marking his first ODI century. Rinku Singh's dynamic 38 off 27 helped India reach a competitive total of 296 runs. In their pursuit, R Hendricks and T De Zorzi put up an opening partnership of 59 runs. Though T De Zorzi contributed a significant 81 off 87, the standout performance was Arshdeep's remarkable four-wicket haul. India clinched the match by 78 runs and secured the series with a 2-1 victory.

Aiden Markram, South Africa Captain: "We were definitely geared up for this series decider, a great venue, and a supportive crowd. Sadly, we couldn't pull through in the end. We had our moments, but we just couldn't maintain momentum in our favor consistently. The pitch remained fairly consistent throughout the match, and a target of 290 seemed achievable. We performed well with the ball. I don't believe the toss had a significant impact on the game today. Looking ahead, the Test series is thrilling, with two fantastic venues for the matches here in South Africa – it really doesn't get much better than this."

Sanju Samson is the player of the match

Sanju Samson: "I'm really proud of it, especially given the outcome of the match. I've been putting in a lot of effort, not just in the past few months, so seeing the results is good. This format allows a bit more time to get a feel for the pitch and understand the bowler's strategy. Batting higher in the order gives the advantage of those extra 10-20 deliveries. The entire nation is proud of how Tilak Verma has risen to the occasion. The veterans in Indian cricket have set high benchmarks, and the younger players are stepping in and delivering."

Arshdeep Singh is the player of the series

Arshdeep Singh: "The pitch offered something all day long, with the ball occasionally gripping and halting. Our strategy was straightforward: aim for a wicket-to-wicket line to increase the chances of LBWs and bowled dismissals. We're really enjoying the opportunities we've been given. We're eager to continue giving our best in the future and strive for success."

KL Rahul, Indian Skipper: "I always love the time spent with the team. It's refreshing to return to cricket after a letdown at the World Cup. My usual advice is to enjoy the game, put in your best effort. These players are talented, but some are new to international cricket, so they need time to adapt. My role is to clarify their responsibilities, and they've all given their all. Sanju has been an outstanding performer. He hasn't had many opportunities to bat higher up the order for various reasons, so it's wonderful to see him succeed today."

238","2ndProjectedScore":"0","3rdProjectedScore":"0
"T20ProMatchID":"
"GroundUmpire1ID":207,"GroundUmpire2ID":438,"GroundUmpire3ID":32
"HomeTeamColor1":"","HomeTeamColor2":"","AwayTeamColor1":"","AwayTeamColor2":"
1
India","timezone1":"Asia/Kolkata
"GroundUmpire1":"Ahsan Raza","GroundUmpire2":"Bongani Jele
"1Summary":"211/10 (46.2 Overs)","1FallScore":"211","1FallWickets":"10","1FallOvers":"46.2","1RunRate":"4.55","2Summary":"215/2 (42.3 Overs)","2FallScore":"215","2FallWickets":"2","2FallOvers":"42.3","2RunRate":"5.06","3Summary":"","3FallScore":"","3FallWickets":"","3FallOvers":"","3RunRate":"","4Summary":"","4FallScore":"","4FallWickets":"","4FallOvers":"","4RunRate":"","5Summary":"","5FallScore":"","5FallWickets":"","5FallOvers":"","5RunRate":"","6Summary":"","6FallScore":"","6FallWickets":"","6FallOvers":"","6RunRate":

We're always keen to challenge ourselves by chasing in this format. Today's a new day, and we're ready to give it our all. We've made two changes to our lineup Beuran and Lizaad are coming in."

KL Rahul, Indian Skipper: "I'm uncertain about the pitch's behavior, we'll just have to observe as the game progresses. It appears to be a good wicket. With three ODIs happening in rapid succession, staying focused on the upcoming games is crucial. We have one change in our lineup as Shreyas has returned to the Test team, and Rinku is set to make his ODI debut."

Winning the toss, South Africa chose to bowl first on a pitch expected to improve as the evening progressed. In only his second ODI, Sai Sudharsan impressively notched up back-to-back fifties, even after losing his partner Ruturaj early on. The captain, batting at number four, played a pivotal innings of 56 off 64 balls, propelling the team's total past the 200 mark. Nandre Burger emerged as the top bowler of the innings, claiming three wickets. The second innings saw a solid opening stand of 130 runs. Tony De Zorzi achieved his first-ever century, and significant contributions from R Hendricks (52 off 81) and R Van Der Dussen (36 off 51) enabled the team to comfortably reach the target with 7 overs to spare.

KL Rahul, Indian Skipper: "Winning the toss might have been advantageous, considering the pitch assistance in the first half. It was a tough pitch, but Sai and I were well-settled. A big century from either of us could have added 50-60 more runs, a key takeaway for future games. A target around 240 would have been ideal, but unfortunately, we lost wickets at crucial times while the pitch continued to offer help. Missing out on a catch was a setback. We aim to leave what happens in the game behind and concentrate on the upcoming matches."

Tony De Zorzi is the player of the match

Tony De Zorzi: "I'm okay, just feeling a bit stiff. Honestly, it was an overwhelming mix of emotions. There were many doubters, and it feels great to prove them wrong. Rob and JP had a chat with me about their expectations for me as an opener. I consider myself adaptable, especially in adjusting to different conditions. It probably hasn't fully hit me yet. It's a moment I'll always cherish."

Aiden Markram, South African Skipper: "Significantly improved from our last outing. We showed a stronger overall game. The pitch was still challenging during our chase, but our openers did a fantastic job battling through. The wind was a notable factor today. Nandre, with the wind at his back, he really fired in those deliveries. We varied our approach considerably, focusing on bowling in the right areas with excellent execution. Tony de Zorzi's performance was monumental, especially considering his limited experience. To remain not out and lead the chase is an extraordinary achievement. Today, whatever target was set, our mindset was to chase it down confidently. We're definitely a more self-assured team after this match."

252","2ndProjectedScore":"0","3rdProjectedScore":"0
"T20ProMatchID":"
"GroundUmpire1ID":438,"GroundUmpire2ID":32,"GroundUmpire3ID":207
"HomeTeamColor1":"","HomeTeamColor2":"","AwayTeamColor1":"","AwayTeamColor2":"
1
India","timezone1":"Asia/Kolkata
"GroundUmpire1":"Bongani Jele","GroundUmpire2":"Richard Kettleborough
"1Summary":"116/10 (27.3 Overs)","1FallScore":"116","1FallWickets":"10","1FallOvers":"27.3","1RunRate":"4.22","2Summary":"117/2 (16.4 Overs)","2FallScore":"117","2FallWickets":"2","2FallOvers":"16.4","2RunRate":"7.02","3Summary":"","3FallScore":"","3FallWickets":"","3FallOvers":"","3RunRate":"","4Summary":"","4FallScore":"","4FallWickets":"","4FallOvers":"","4RunRate":"","5Summary":"","5FallScore":"","5FallWickets":"","5FallOvers":"","5RunRate":"","6Summary":"","6FallScore":"","6FallWickets":"","6FallOvers":"","6RunRate":

Welcome to the live coverage of the first ODI of India vs South Africa, set to unfold at The Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg. This series opener is not just a game; it's a narrative of rising talents and strategic prowess. KL Rahul, leading India, brings a youthful yet experienced side. This presents an opportunity for emerging stars like Ruturaj Gaikwad and Sai Sudharsan to shine. South Africa, captained by Aiden Markram, boasts a formidable lineup with the likes of David Miller and Rassie van der Dussen. The addition of uncapped Nandre Burger adds an element of surprise to their bowling attack. The pitch at "Bull Ring", typically favorable for batting, might offer some assistance to bowlers due to recent rainfall, adding a twist to the tale. Reflecting on their last encounter at the World Cup 2023, both teams are well aware of the high stakes. Key battles to watch include India's young batsmen against South Africa's pace attack and the duel between Indian spinners and the Proteas' middle order.

PITCH REPORT

Pommie Mbangwa: "We're playing on a pitch that was last used a few days ago. The dimensions are notable - 77 meters straight down the ground, with the square boundaries at 59 and 69 meters. It's a dry surface, typical of a used pitch. Given these conditions, the team winning the toss would likely opt to bat first, aiming to stack up the runs early. There are a few cracks on the surface, but they haven't opened up significantly. The grass present is primarily to keep the pitch intact. On this ground, 270 runs is the average score, but in the last five ODIs, it's been around 298. Teams will want to aim higher than that, avoiding falling below these figures. The strategy should be to bat first and aim for a high total."
